Ceramic Enginnering

The founder of Banaras Hindu University, Pandit Madan Mohan Malviyaji instituted a course in Ceramic Technology as early as 1924 with the noble objective of advancing glass and ceramic technology in India.

Chemical Engineering

The Department of Industrial Chemistry was started in the erstwhile Science College in the year 1921. Till 1928, only one year diploma course in Industrial Chemistry was offered. In 1928, a two - year course leading to B. Sc.( Industrial Chemistry) degree was also introduced.

Civil Engineering

A 4-year Undergraduate Course in Civil & Municipal Engg. was first introduced in 1949 in the erstwhile Engineering College. The formal sanction of the Visitor of the University to create this Dept. was received in 1956 and the B.Sc Engg. (Civil & Municipal) Degree was recognized by the Govt. of India in 1953.

Computer Engineering

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering was established in January 1985. The department offers a course in B.Tech., 4 years, in Computer Science and Engineering.

Electrical Engineering

The Department of Electrical Engineering, Banaras Hindu University can take pride in itself as one of the oldest institutions in the country (Established in 1919) dedicated to the task of advance training of engineers in the field of Electrical Sciences.

Electronics Engineering

Department of Electronics Engineering came into existence as an offshoot of Electrical Engineering Department in the year 1971 (when Banaras Engineering College, College of Mining and Metallurgy and College of Technology had been amalgamated to form the Institute of Technology in its present form).

Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering came into existence in 1919 under the leadership of Professor Charles A. King, the first Head of the Department and Principal of the erstwhile Banaras Engineering College (BENCO).

Metallurgical Engineering

The Department of Metallurgical Engineering at BHU, established in the year 1923, has pioneered metallurgical education and research in this country owing to the noble thoughts and dreams of Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviyaji.

Mining Engineering

The Department of Mining Engineering, a well conceived dream of the founder of this University PANDIT MADAN MOHAN MALVIYAJI and the oldest Mining Engineering Department in the country.

Pharmaceutical Engineering

With the inspiration of Late Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya and with the untiring zeal and enthusiasm of Late Professor M.L.Schroff, this Department was established as early as 1932.
